JUNE 2025
We are pleased to announce the release of Signserver Hardware Appliance 5.1.0.
With this release, we have added support for remote usage of the PIN Pad on u.trust HSM. In addition, we now support smart card authentication (SCA) on additional slots with the same HSM.
The release also provides migration capabilities from the Legacy Hardware Appliance to Next Generation Hardware Appliances for installations with SCA enabled.
Highlights
New version of SignServer Enterprise
SignServer Enterprise has been updated to version 7.3.2. For more information, see the SignServer Release Notes.
Smart Card Authentication on u.trust Slots
Starting with this release, after updating to HSM firmware version 6.0.0.0, each HSM slot can be additionally protected with smart cards. This enhancement provides improved scalability for the configuration and administration of smart card authentication for individual slots.
Remote PIN Pad Usage with u.trust Appliances
The PIN Pad (card reader) can now be used remotely by connecting it to a local computer. This feature supports all smart card interactions from remote locations.
HSM Firmware Updates Through Webconf
HSM firmware updates (u.trust or Luna) are now delivered as part of the appliance firmware package and can be installed through the Webconf user interface following a specific procedure.
u.trust HSM firmware update
The u.trust HSM firmware has been updated to version 6.0.0.0.
Migration from Legacy to u.trust Next Generation Hardware Appliance
Starting with version 5.1.0 on Next Generation Hardware Appliances, you can migrate installations from Legacy Hardware Appliances that have SCA enabled (supported from version 3.16.0 onwards).
Improvements and Corrections
The following lists other corrections included in the release.
Resolved an issue in version 5.0.0 where cryptographic operations were rejected under high load conditions in Next Generation Luna Appliance cluster setups when the active node was busy.
Upgrade Information
A downgrade of the firmware version of the appliance would require also a downgrade of the HSM firmware version in case the versions between those firmware versions are different. Therefore it would require a factory reset of the appliance.
