PIN Pad and Smart Cards Operations

The following actions are available in the PIN Pad Operations section:

If the PIN Pad transaction is interrupted for a period of about 90 seconds, it automatically switches to a timeout status.
Timeouts are not indicated on the PIN Pad display. The display will turn blank and you will find the timeout information in Webconf.

If the PIN is entered incorrectly three times, the Smart Card can no longer be used.

PIN Pad Operations

Change the PIN on a Backup Protection Smart Card

Prerequisites:

  • HSM should be configured and the PIN Pad attached to the appliance.

  • Required cards: Backup Protection Smart Card and Administration Smart Card.

  1. Log in to your Next Generation Hardware Appliance.

  2. Open the Security page.

  3. Go to the Smart Card Management section.
    All connected PIN Pads and the possible actions for these are listed under PIN Pad Operations.

  4. In the Actions column on the right, click Change PIN on Backup Protection Smart Card.
    A message appears: PIN Pad interaction required.
    Answer the prompts on your PIN Pad.

  5. The PIN Pad display shows: Insert Smart Card.
    press OK/Cancel
    Insert the Backup Protection Card into the PIN Pad.
    Press press OK on the PIN Pad.

    The PIN Pad display shows: Enter old PIN.
    Enter old PIN: e.g. 123456 (the cards initially have 123456 set as PIN).
    Press press OK on the PIN Pad to confirm the PIN.

    The PIN Pad display shows: Enter new PIN.
    Enter new PIN: e.g.: 456789
    Press press OK on the PIN Pad to confirm the PIN.

    The PIN Pad display shows: Confirm Entry.
    Confirm your entry by re-entering the new PIN.
    Then press OK on the PIN Pad again to confirm the PIN.

  6. A success message is displayed in Webconf that the PIN of the Backup Protection Smart Card has been changed.

PIN correction: To restart entering the PIN press the yellow Clear button.

Cancel PIN entry: To abort the entire operation press the red Cancel button.

Clone a Backup Protection Smart Card

Prerequisites:

  • HSM should be configured and the PIN Pad attached to the appliance.

  • Required cards: Backup Protection Smart Card and Administration Smart Card.

  1. Log in to your Next Generation Hardware Appliance.

  2. Open the Security page.

  3. Go to the Smart Card Management section.
    All connected PIN Pads and the possible actions for these are listed under PIN Pad Operations.

  4. In the Actions column on the right, click Clone Backup Protection Smart Card.
    A message appears: PIN Pad interaction required.
    Answer the prompts on your PIN Pad.

  5. The PIN Pad display shows: Ins. Source Card
    press OK/Cancel
    Insert the Source Card into the PIN Pad.
    Press press OK on the PIN Pad.

    The PIN Pad display shows: Enter PIN.
    Enter PIN: 123456.
    Press press OK on the PIN Pad to confirm the PIN.

    The PIN Pad display shows: Ins. Target Card
    press OK/Cancel
    Insert the Target Card into the PIN Pad.

    Press press OK on the PIN Pad.

    The PIN Pad display shows: Enter PIN.
    Enter PIN: 123456.
    Press press OK on the PIN Pad to confirm the PIN.

  6. A success message is displayed in Webconf that the Backup Protection Smart Card has been cloned.

PIN correction: To restart entering the PIN press the yellow Clear button.

Cancel PIN entry: To abort the entire operation press the red Cancel button.

Change the PIN on a Administration Smart Card

Prerequisites:

  • HSM should be configured and the PIN Pad attached to the appliance.

  • Required cards: Backup Protection Smart Card and Administration Smart Card.

  1. Log in to your Next Generation Hardware Appliance.

  2. Open the Security page.

  3. Go to the Smart Card Management section.
    All connected PIN Pads and the possible actions for these are listed under PIN Pad Operations.

  4. In the Actions column on the right, click Change PIN on Administration Smart Card.
    A message appears: PIN Pad interaction required.
    Answer the prompts on your PIN Pad.

  5. The PIN Pad display shows: Insert Smart Card
    press OK/Cancel
    Insert the Administration Smart Card into the PIN Pad.
    Press press OK on the PIN Pad.

    The PIN Pad display shows: Enter old PIN.
    Enter old PIN: 123456.
    Press press OK on the PIN Pad to confirm the PIN.

    The PIN Pad display shows: Enter new PIN.
    Enter new PIN: e.g.: 456789.
    Press press OK on the PIN Pad to confirm the PIN.

    The PIN Pad display shows: Confirm Entry.
    Confirm your entry by re-entering the new PIN.
    Then press OK on the PIN Pad again to confirm the PIN.

  6. A success message is displayed in Webconf that the PIN of the Administration Smart Card has been changed.

PIN correction: To restart entering the PIN press the yellow Clear button.

Cancel PIN entry: To abort the entire operation press the red Cancel button.

Set PIN Pad as Default

This function is not available if the currently selected PIN Pad is already the default PIN Pad. If a different PIN Pad is to be set as the default, this must first be selected in the list of connected PIN Pads.

  1. Log in to your Next Generation Hardware Appliance.

  2. Open the Security page.

  3. Go to the Smart Card Management section.
    All connected PIN Pads and the possible actions for these are listed under PIN Pad Operations.

  4. Select the PIN Pad to be set as Default.

  5. In the Actions column on the right, click Set PIN Pad as Default.

  6. A pop-up window awaits confirmation.
    Click Set as Default to confirm and finish.

Deleting PIN Pads used in the SCA User Mapping leads to a fallback to the default PIN Pad (or the local PIN Pad if the default PIN Pad has been deleted).
