Luna HSM Firmware Update

This option is only available if a Luna HSM is initialized and a new Luna HSM firmware update is available.

First, create a current backup and secure all slots in use.
For more information, see HSM Slot Backup.

The HSM firmware update to 7.9.1 is only available if your HSM is running in Non FIPS mode.
No HSM firmware update is available when the appliance is running in FIPS mode.

Do not restart or shut down the Next Generation Hardware while the Update is running.

  1. Log in to your Next Generation Hardware Appliance.

  2. Open the Security page.

  3. In the section HSM Configuration the HSM Information table is displayed.
At the top of the table to the right of Internal HSM Status, there is a button labeled:
    Update HSM Firmware.
The current version is displayed in the row Firmware: e.g. 7.8.4
and here as well there is a button labeled:
    Update Recommended.

  4. Click on one of the two buttons to continue.

  5. A modal dialog opens:
    HSM Firmware Update
The Current Version and the version to be updated to (New Version) are displayed here.
A box for activating a remote PED is then displayed.
If the Use Remote PED check box is selected, the remote PED is required for the subsequent setup.
If the box is not selected, a local PED must be connected directly to the HSM.

  6. Click Next Step to continue.

  7. A modal dialog opens:
    HSM Firmware Update - Summary

  8. Click Start Setup.
Observe and follow the prompts on the PED.

  9. Then click Finalize to complete the firmware update.
